Privacy Policy

Playhead is a personal project, not a company. This page describes what the app actually does with data - not legal boilerplate.

Accounts are optional

The app works fully without signing in. If you do sign in (Google or an email link), your followed teams/leagues, services, and your settings sync to your account so a second device can pick up where the first left off. Signing in never happens automatically - only when you tap Sign In in Settings.

What a sign-in provider sees

Google sign-in shares your name, email, and profile photo with this app, the same as any "Sign in with Google" button. An email sign-in link only ever needs your email address. Neither is used for anything beyond identifying your account and sending you the emails described below.

Emails

If you sign in, your email address is also used to send you a short weekly email in the week of big games, and notices about your own account (a welcome, a subscription change, a data export or an account deletion). They are sent through Resend, an email delivery service, which receives your address to deliver them. The weekly email has an Unsubscribe link in its footer that stops it for good. Account notices are not marketing, so they have no unsubscribe link.

Paid plans and payments

If you buy Ad-Free or Pro, you pay on Stripe's own hosted checkout page. Stripe collects your card details; Playhead never sees or stores them. When you start checkout, your sign-in email and account id are passed to Stripe so the payment is tied to your account. Your account then keeps only what it needs to run the plan: which plan you have, whether it renews monthly or yearly, when the current period ends, whether it is set to cancel, and Stripe's customer and subscription ids. You manage or cancel from Stripe's hosted billing portal, reached from Settings > Membership. If you delete your account while a plan is active, the plan is set not to renew (you are not charged again, and the period already paid for is not refunded) and Playhead deletes its own billing record for you. What Stripe does with payment data is covered by Stripe's own privacy policy.

What stays on your device either way

Time zone override, clock format, haptics, notification permissions, and your local cache never leave your device, signed in or not. Everything else (teams/leagues, services, and the rest of your settings) is stored locally when signed out, and additionally synced to your account when signed in. Clearing your browser's site data removes the local copy; signing out stops this device from syncing but doesn't delete your account's synced copy.

What the app fetches

Game schedules, scores, team logos, and rankings come from ESPN's own public data, fetched directly by your browser. These are plain, read-only requests for public sports data - none of your own information is attached to them.

Reminders

A game reminder you set uses your browser's own local notification feature by default - it's not sent to any server, and it only fires while this app's tab stays open. If you separately turn on Push notifications in Settings, this device's browser subscription and the reminder's game/time are also stored so a notification can reach you even when the tab isn't open. Nothing about who you are is attached to that - just a random id for this browser install.

Betting odds (only if you turn them on)

Odds are off by default. When enabled, they're shown as provided in ESPN's own data, attributed to the real sportsbook and timestamp. This app has no affiliation with any sportsbook, doesn't link out to place bets, and doesn't send your activity to one.

Analytics

This app uses Google Analytics to understand overall usage - things like which pages are visited and roughly how many people use the app. Google Analytics sets cookies and shares this data with Google under Google's own privacy policy. It's not tied to your account.

Ads

This website uses Google AdSense. AdSense sets cookies and may use them to personalize which ads you see, sharing data with Google under Google's own privacy policy. If you're in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you'll see a real choice to accept or decline before AdSense runs; everywhere else it runs by default, the same way most ad-supported sites work. You can turn off personalized ads directly at Google's Ad Settings.

Questions

This is a one-person project. If something here seems off, the person who built it would genuinely want to know.
